A Single Moan

by a fire’s metronome,

the first wolf of

evening comes,

howling at a

moon—high

above where

nightfall sits

waiting—holding

a single moan,

like a koan

a moan

held as

morning

arrives, in a

downy glade,

hoary with

white.
