Wire and Tack

Punch like a fist through teeth, girl,

storm like a harlot—

we’re all animals here.

It’s so that I’ve whimpered and quaked, gotten all

ridiculous; it is so on lips; a mouth is now cracked;

a jaw set as is with wire and tack.

I tell the women I haven’t much left to say—

my jaw and my heart have been broken

for days.
